November 28, 2012 - Round 2!

Well, family, here I go again!  I'll try and recap week 2 for you all!  It's so crazy everything is all a blurr. The days all mush together and I can never remember when anything happened.  First of all, I had a wonderful thanksgiving!  One of the best in my life!! And it all started with a fantastic devotional for elder HOLLAND!!! I was so excited!  It was so good, I learned so much! it was amazing.  Then later in the day they put on a little program for us where the whole MTC sang "Over the river and through the woods" - that was mildly amusing too haha.  Pretty cool.  That night all 3000 of us or however many missionaries there are here participated in a humanitarian service project.  That was so awesome. There were human assembly lines going every which way throughout the cafeteria (stolovnaya for all you russki ru speakers out there;))  We made health kits and education kits to send to Africa.  I loved it. Then at night we all gathered in the aud. and watch 17 Miracles with the whole MTC. One of my favorite thanksgivings.

Then the next day was a little rough.  One of the elders in my district went home:/  That was hard because he had been coming to me and talking to me as the District leader, telling me about how he was feeling. We had been trying to work on some things, but then he just left.  I was out of the room when he did, so I didnt even get to say goodbye to him.  And he wouldnt give us his address so we could write to him.  It was kinda hard for the whole district, but that night we had like a little testimony meeting as a district, and really used that experience to strengthen eachother and grow closer.  All in all I guess it was good, but sad that he left.

Man I can never remember the things I want to say when I finally get to a computer.. sorry! haha.  Theres just so much that goes on in the week and so much I learn.  This week we are starting SYL (Speak your language).  It looks much cooler in russki.  Its called govorit svoy yazeek.  Basically, we are only allowed to speak russian to eachother all day.  We are only doing one day this week cause we're still new, but the older districts are doing it like 4 or 5 days a week.  My district is doing it tomorrow, needless to say, I think it'll be a pretty quiet day haha.  We are supposed to do SYL everyday the last 2 weeks.

We have 2 new investigators so thats cool.  Our first investigation became one of our teachers (surprise, surprise) and he is so cool!  Brat Kulikovskii. (Brat means brother in Russian)   He is a native Ukrainian and so scary!  Our fist class with him was terrifying!  He uses weird russian sarcasm that I dont think anyone gets and also, he is a prime example of what people mean when they say that Russians are very blunt.  Mom, it had that sticky note pad sitting out on my desk (the one with all the colors - thanks btw!) and he sees it and stops the class and looks at me and says "stareyshina robison, are you supporting San Fransisco?" HAHA i laughed.  Then I wasnt standing up straight one time and he like hit me in the stomach and said "stareyshina robison, why are you sticking your belly out (I wasnt - it just looked huge cause i was wearing a sweater)?  people in russia will not like you if you stand like that"  He does things like that to everyone!  Its so funny, I love it!  We are goiing to learn so much - he has us do a lot more than any of the other classes have to do, but thats ok, cause I want to learn as much as i can from him since he's a native.  But he took us in individually and did personal like get to know you sessions with each of us and he is one of the nicest guys.  He just pretends to be mean in class so we'll learn i guess.

So yesterday was a rough day, I was really dissappointed in my teaching and russian.  But it got better cause we had tuesday devotional and afterwards, we have devo review as a district in our classrooms.  That really lifted my spirits.  One of the things that was emphasized was when Jesus says "walk with me".  For some reason that really hit me unlike any time before that.  When he says that, he is saying come talk with me, get to know me and let me get to know you.  Of course he already knows everything about us, but when he says that, he is giving us the opportunity to tell him in person how we feel about him.  He wants to give each of us that opportunity and I love it.  We can do that by the way that we live and the things we say.  I loved it.  It was exactly what i needed yesterday.
First District in classroom

Well, I better get going.  I cant really think of anything I need right now, I'm having the time of my life!  I wouldn't want to be doing anything else right now.  I'm growing and learning so much!  I feel so blessed and I know that the gospel is true more now that ever before!  I have more of a desire to become a missionary and NOT a guy on a mission!

I love you all!! when we get back from the temple later, I'll try and find a way to send pics!

Much love!  BTW  I LOVE dearelders.  They really are a nice way to end my day.  Keep 'em coming if you feel so inclined:)  sorry I can't always respond promptly -  i dont have much time. Every minute of everyday is planned out of me, but I'll try my best!

Til next week
