Well Austin is on his way to experience the adventure of a life time. Below are some pictures of the day he left for the MTC. He had to report to the MTC at 1:40pm. We had a relaxing morning at home then headed to Lana's for a great lunch she prepared. As the time got closer we all got more and more nervous. Driving to the MTC was a very quiet ride. It was only about 10 minutes from Lana's house but it seemed like an eternity knowing what was coming - the eventual good-bye.
Once at the MTC there was a line of cars all dropping off their missionaries also. I found comfort in know that I was not going to be the only mother crying that day. We later found out there were 750 missionaries arriving at the Provo MTC on that very day. We got to where they told us to drop Austin off and there was a wonderful Elder waiting to greet us. He was so kind and really let us have as much time as we needed to say goodbye. We all gave Austin a hug and gave him lots of love and words of support before it was time for him to walk away. Eventually we could not see Austin any more as he walked into the sea of suits (see the pictures below).
As we climbed back into the car without Austin this time the tears were flowing. We stopped for Ice Cream at the BYU dairy to help console my heart. It did not help - I just got tons of calories and no consolation :( It was a very quiet drive back to Ephraim. We know that he will grow and learn so much over the next 2 years and will come back to us sooner than we know. We are excited to hear all about his adventures with the people of Russia.
