Hello all!!!
Well, I survived week 1! It's so crazy, everything is planned out for you to the minute here... but its all good! First let me start out saying how awesome my companion is, Elder Holman. He's pretty awesome, we get along really well! My district is pretty awesome too. We also happen to be the first all-male russia district for a long time, so thats pretty cool. There are 8 of us, 4 going to St Petes and 4 going to Samara. I love 'em! They're all so cool! We get along really well as a district and have all gotten pretty close already. Good thing since we'll be here 12 weeks together. We spend about 8-9 hours a day in the classroom... days feel like years but weeks feel like hours.. if you know what I mean haha. This week has gone by so fast, I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast by the time we go to bed! So crazy, but so fun, I love it!
Other big/exciting news I guess.. we met with the Branch Presidency on Thursday night (our whole branch is Russian speaking so all the hymns and prayers and testimonies are in Russian - so cool!) and they decided to make be District Leader!! So thats kinda fun I guess. A lot of work though!! I have liike training meetings 4 times a weeks I think.
Our class is in a building with all the Russian and Ukrainian classes on the same floor, which is pretty fun. Also, interesting story, when I picked up all my book, I opened it and they had also given me all the Ukrainian learning materials too (along with Russian).. but I'm not going to ukraine. i asked my older roommates and they said I shouldnt have them unless I was actually going to Ukraine.. weird. I'm going to keep them anyways:)
My companion and I will have our own room starting tomorrow - we moved in with some guys who had visa problems so they were delayed. One already left on Monday and the other is leaving tomorrow. We're excited about that. Then in 6 weeks when the new russki-ru's come in, we'll be the older guys and just blow their minds with all of the russian we know!
Also, this is probably one of the funniest things, but there is a section of the cafeteria that looks like it was added on so its a little bit separated from the rest of the cafeteria. There are like support beams that almost make it look like a balcony caused the wall around the little area are windows. Anyways thats where all the Russian and Ukrainian folks eat.. we call it the iron curtain!! haha - so funny!! Love it.
We had to start teaching our first investigator on Friday morning, after 1 1/2 days of russian. He is a native speaker.. we had to teach him in russian! Needless to say the lesson was pretty bad. We had a second one the next day which, in my opinion was worse, but! Have no fear because redemption came to us! Our lesson monday i'm pretty sure was awesome! At least Stareyshina Holman and I think it went really well. We have out last meeting with him tonight, then on friday he becomes one of our teachers. But he kinda blew his cover since during the lessons we noticed a celestial smile and we've seen him walking the halls in a white shirt and tie. He tries to avoid out whole distrrict like the plague! - pretty funny yesterday when we saw him at lunch!
We get to do service every Monday, which is a nice change of pace, and we have an hour of sport every day to keep us sane.
So, just an FYI, the dearelders work great and I LOVE them! I've gotten all of yours that sent me one, so thanks!! I have to try and find time to respond to them, hopefully i'll have plenty of time today (yes we got up at 5.30 today to do laundry since we heard it fills up fast and I am using the computers in the laundry room to write this - we are not alone here- apparently its quite popular to get up that early to do laundry) Also, mom I got that package with the good stuff in it, thanks:) Besides the stuff I asked you for in my letter earlier, I also need my other black shoes that I left at home, some little sticky notes and the clear little folder of paper with all my handouts from institute - that should be in my room. Also, I got my second Hep A shot and that cost 64$ i think. We have been told that the dictionaries we got with arebooks aren't super goof so we should have our parents order the Katzner dictionary (its red) you can buy it on Amazon and have it shipped to me at the MTC if you want.
We watched a "movie" sunday night after the fireside. It is really just videos of old MTC devotionals, but it was Elder Bednar. He have it here last year on Christmas day. It's called the "Attributes of Christ" or something like that, Anyway, If you get a chance see if you can find it cause it was AMAZING. Logan would absolutely die I think. It's one of my new favorite talks now. I talked with a few people and apparently its been announced that the MTC is due to have an appearance from an Apostel or such very soon! I'm so excited!!
Well I have to go! Love you all and I am loving everyminute of my time here at the MTC!! The spririt is so strong here all the time! I've learned so much, both with the language and in the Gospel. Can't wait for more!!
Till next week!
Love
Stareyshina Robison
