December 12, 2012 - Week 4

Holy cow! On friday I will have been here a month already!  Or at least I think so.. I'm never really sure of the date around here.  Crazy! It's gone by so fast!  Well, this week was great!!  So many awesome things happenning - I love it!  First of all, I haven't heard anything about moving up yet, but thats ok, I'm totally fine with it because I love my district and wouldn't want to leave them.  Second, things are going great with my companion again!  We had like a counseling session with our zone leaders (2 of my favorite people in the entire world) during Companionship Inventory - its been so great.  One of them has a bachelor's degree in Psychology, so he was really great at kinda figuring out the problems and how to solve them.  But, they are leaving for Russia on monday:/   then, since we came in a week early and the olders are only in for 9 1/2 weeks (the Church wanted to have them out before Christmas)  there will be like 2 or 3 weeks of just us 2 new districts being the only ones in our zone = church on sundays.  So, since we will be the only ones here, we decided to have a friendly competition with them.  We are going to see who has the most christmassy classroom by Christmas.  So far we are kicking their trash!! Ours is so much more decorated (our branch presidents wife even said that ours was).  Here's the embarassing part for the other guys - we are a district of 7 Elders... they have 6 Elders and 4 Sisters.. and we are still destroying them in the decorating competition!!  They're pretty cool though.  One of their sisters is absolutely hilarious!  I'm excited to only have us 2 districts, then guess what?  the first week of January, we get the first group of new russki speakers!! And we will be the olders.  Crazy!

That brings me kind of, in a round-about way to my next exciting thing!  I've developed this theory, that if you speak German or have studied it at all, guess where you're going on your mission?.. Nope, not Germany, but Russia.  This week I met 4 other people going to Russia/Ukraine who either were also exchange students in Germany, or have studied it for years.  It's kinda fun, we all talk to each other so we don't all forget it:)  Yesterday, I met one of them (in the other zone) who was an exchange student in, you guessed it, Gelsenkirchen (spelling?)!!!  Now I know most of you are like "huh?" but David (and Logan and Kyle), You should be happy to know that me and this guy had a nice little bonding moment over the best soccer club in the world, Schalke:)  That was exciting:)  It kinda funny when we talk though, cause we've been doing russian all day, so a lot of our sentences are half german half russki.  It's hard to switch completely to one or the other.

Also, sunday for the MTC fireside,  the BYU Men's Chorus came and did a Christmas concert.  It was amazing!  So good!!

So, it seems like these emails are getting shorter and shorter every week, but I really have a hard time remembering what goes on when so I don't know if I've already told you.  But let me spout some random things I guess.. today we are getting our hairs cut.  The temple closes on Saturday for the rest of the year, but we got assigned next wednesday to go do service there!  3 hours, I think we're cleaning it.  I'm very excited for that!  The food is getting old here.. and I've definitely gained a few pounds.. yesterday at the devo, we had Elder Donald L. Hallstrom from the presidency of the 70.  he gave a great talk!  One thing that he talked about (or at least I got out of it) was saying "thats just the way I am".  Why would you say that?? When you do, you are totally putting limits on yourself and how much you can improve.  In my opinion, you are also rejecting the atonement of Christ.  The whoole point of the Atonement is to help people change (whether it be sin, or just who they are that could use some fine-tuning).  Making a general blanket statement of "thats just the way I am" is the lamest excuse for not wanting to do anything to change that.  We have no room to say that, when Christ died on the cross for us, so that we could have to opportunity to change and improve our lives and ourselves.  We don't have to be "this way" or "that way", we have the abillity to change everything that we don't like.  Thats all I'm going to say on the subject.  I realize that was a little bit of a soap box, but I just thought that was something cool that the spirit taught me yesterday:)

To answer your question mom, yes it is the German version of Jesus the Christ.  Also, have you been able to find the red "katzner" dictionary?

Thanks everyone for your letters and dearelders!! I LOVE getting them!  Love you all!  Have a great week and make good choices!!

Love,
CT. Robison
