AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just have to first congratulate Logan on his call publically because that is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited for you!!!!
Ok. Its been kind of crazy week. Good though overall. Last week after email I went and got my first Russian haircut. Nothing very different or exciting about that, but I thought I'd just mention that anyways. Another thing, about the washing mashine.. we got it fixed! They sent out a repair person to come and the first thing he did was check the extension cord that it was hooked to. As soon as he did that I just went "ooooohhhhh craaaaaap!" I had totally forgotten to check that, although Elder Eady swears he did. Turns out that was the problem. The extension cord was dead. Oops. We check the outlet and everything, but I didn't really think to check the extension cord.. I felt like a total idiot haha. But it was a good thing the repair guy came anyways because he told us that in about 6 months the whole washer is going to be dead and we'll have to buy a new one. Good to know so I guess it wasn't a complete waste of time and money. So anyways, I have my clothes back. Thanks to everyone who emailed trying to help me with solutions though!
A couple intersting experiences while we were contacting this week. We talked to one guy who told us that he thought that someone believing in God was just as logical as someone believing in a tree... not sure what he meant by that, but ok. Then we actually had this lady stop us and ask us what mormons were. Pretty cool cause that almost never happens around this area. We were able to basically give her the restoration lesson on the street. That was kinda fun. Then one night we went over to this guy who was smoking and started talking to him and after a while his friend came up and started talking to us too. He recognized who we were from an episode of South Park apparently. Elder Eady got a phone call while talking to him, so he left and I spent like 10-15 minutes just talking with this guy. He was trying to convince me why he thought we were a sect (that seems to be a VERY popular idea around here), but finally agreed to come to church just to see what it was like. Then a few days later we ran into this other guy who we had talked to I think a week or 2 before. He apparently hadn't eaten in 2 days or something and didn't have a job. So we went with him around the corner to this little store and bought him some food. He was so grateful. Really sincere too. He even promised to meet with us the next night. He didn't come though... to be completely honest, I am way more surprised when people do come that when they don't. It's just kinda the way it seems to be around here. We've had so many meetings set up and we call them before and they're still planning on it and they never show up. So annyoing. We've only had a handful where people show up, but when they do, its so worth it. Then the most dramatic/ridiculous contacting experience this week. I still get legitimately angry even thinking about it. We are crossing the street and we see this guy just kinda standing there (he looks kinda homeless to me because of how he was dressed and his grooming choices), but Elder Eady walks up to him and asks how he's doing. He looks at us and says "good, better than you guys." He then proceeds to tear into us about why we are here and about how we are doing such a terrible things here and basically that we're from the devil. Eady says something like that we were here because of the BOM or something because then this guys says that its a terrible book (although admitted to not have ever read it) then asks if he can see it. We give it to him and he looks at it then at us then winds up his arm and chucks is across the street... I was completely in shock. I didn't even know what to do. I asked him why he did that ( I was holding one too) and he asked if I wanted him to do that to mine too. Eady went and picked it up from the middle of the road as well as the pamphlets that came flying out of it. I didn't notice, but Eady told me afterwards that it was a red light and we were on the corner and apparently EVERYONE was watching what had happened. The people on the sidewalks and the people in the cars. Everyone. And everyone in Gatchina knows who we are too (its not that big of a city). Apparently they were all watching me talk to this guy, so I hope I didn't say anything offensive to him (as I have the terrible habit of losing the filter on my mouth when I'm irritated). I don't remember what I said cause I was still in a state of shock at that point. Even typing this story out now I am so angry about it. It really helped me see how much I really do love that book though because I actually felt personally offended when he threw it. Like I felt personally attacked. It must be a true book! Anyways, enough of that hahah.
Also we went tracting for the first time this week. Was different, kinda fun though. We just have to stand outside and call people one the домофон until someone agrees to let us in. I liked it for the most part.
Friday I got to go to the center of the city for zone training. Its BEAUTIFUL. That's what I had been expecting to see the whole time. It is so pretty! I loved it. After zone training we had lunch... in the food court... of a mall. I was really surprised and almost thought I was in America again. So strange but it looked just like an american mall. Also at zone training found out that they are creating 58 new missions as of right now, to accomidate the huge increase in number of missionaries (which is so awesome I still can't get over it). New missions include (from what I can remember): another one in Ukraine (L'viv), 7 more in Brazil, like 5 or so more in Argentina, another one in Utah (SLC East), I think 4 more in California, 2 more in Idaho, 3 more in Washington state and other varoius places. SO exciting! Can't wait til there's another Russia or 10 on that list!
Well I think thats all I can think of for now. BUT let me throw in my little plug for the power of the gift of tongues! I've defintely experienced that this week, as I've put more effort into learning the language, I can understand people almost all the time now as well as speak a lot better and comforatbly. So awesome, I know the gifts of the spirit are real and we can all be blessed with them if we will put forth the effort!
Fun fact: Our mission had 4 baptisms this past week. None in Gatchina, but hopefully soon!
I love you all, have a great week!!
